Class combination container/roll-on, roll-off ships. Aloha Class vessels Daniel K. Inouye and Kaimana Hila, the largest containerships built in the U.S., and Kanaloa Class vessels Matsonia and Lurline, with their enclosed garage for approximately 500 vehicles and ample space for rolling stock and breakbulk cargo, provide regular service to Honolulu. The new vessels join five others in Matson’s Hawaii service, which operates four West Coast departures weekly – one from Tacoma, WA, one from Oakland, CA, and two from Long Beach, CA. The four newest ships feature the latest “green” technology, fuel-efficient hull designs, environmentally safe double hull fuel tanks, fresh water ballast systems, and – in the case of the Kanaloa Class – the first Tier 3 dual-fuel engines deployed in containerships serving U.S. West Coast ports.
